Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day

Description

Empowering Entrepreneurs

Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day is a celebration of the backbone of the global economy. These enterprises are the driving force behind innovation, job creation, and economic growth. On this day, we recognize the significant contributions of MSMEs to the development of local communities and the overall prosperity of nations.

Fostering Entrepreneurship

MSMEs Day aims to promote entrepreneurship, particularly among marginalized groups, such as women, youth, and minorities. By providing access to resources, training, and mentorship, we can empower individuals to turn their ideas into successful businesses. This, in turn, can lead to improved livelihoods, reduced poverty, and increased economic stability.

Building Resilience

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of MSMEs in maintaining supply chains, providing essential services, and supporting local economies. As we recover from the crisis, MSMEs Day serves as a reminder of the need to build resilience, adapt to changing circumstances, and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Origin

United Nations Resolution

The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 71/279 in 2017, designating June 27 as Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day. This resolution recognized the crucial role of MSMEs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Global Partnerships

The UN resolution was the result of collaborative efforts between governments, international organizations, and private sector entities. The day is celebrated globally, with events, conferences, and initiatives aimed at promoting MSMEs and their contributions to sustainable development.

Raising Awareness

MSMEs Day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by small businesses, such as limited access to finance, inadequate infrastructure, and regulatory barriers. By highlighting these issues, we can work together to create a more conducive environment for MSMEs to thrive.
